The instinct of self-preservation tells me that it is not worth traveling on any kind of vehicle, whether it is a car or a motorcycle in a foreign country. In the end, you can hire a local driver or negotiate with a taxi driver about a similar price. If you really need to drive a car or a serious situation requires it, study the traffic rules in the host country from cover to cover and only after that drive. It's not even about money, you can pay a fine, but in the harsh laws of Thailand. Be on the alert if you take the vehicle for hire. One of my compatriots was imprisoned because of a conflict with a local scooter distributor. When returning the scooter, the distributor accused the guy of damaging the scooter, although the guy claimed that the dent was already there. Word by word - a fight ensued. The police did not understand for a long time. She took the tourist without the first call. The relatives were not informed until a week later. As a result, the guy was kept in prison for six months and released on bail 30 000 dollars. The ransom was collected by the whole city, including charitable organizations.

Olga, you just told a shocking story. Frankly, at first I wanted just to tell your words over studying the traffic rules "from cover to cover". After reading the article, it seemed to me that the rules of the road in Phuket are no different from ours. The same written truths: do not park in the wrong place, do not go intoxicated. Now I understand that besides this there are all the same nuances that you need to know in advance. Especially being in a foreign country. There, where only knowledge and non-infighting can protect you! Of course, it's easier to take a taxi and not think about anything. But it's not always possible, but most importantly, sometimes you want to look much longer and longer than the excursion program or taxi offers. Therefore, I support the previous author and try to get acquainted with the basic laws and rules before leaving for another country. Good luck to all campers and new pleasant experiences!

And excursions are not always in the places that you want to visit here. Taking an auto or scooter, you can go to "unexplored" places or to the outback of the country, stay there for as long as you want. Therefore, I support the previous author and try to get acquainted with the basic laws and rules before leaving for another country. Good luck to all campers and new pleasant experiences!

Olga, this is for us when you are at home, at home, at the level of sound logic there is an instinct of self-preservation, but for tourists who still managed to go on vacation for a few weeks in a rather exotic country, such instinct is dulled . In the end, and there are various kinds of adventure with consequences. It is very annoying when such adventures take place with a decent tourist in an adequate state. It is rather rare. After all, most of the violations and incidents occur in a state close to a very gay with the presence of the same comrades. And the local guardians of order will be there. In such a situation, as a result of the lack of knowledge of local administrative law and local traffic rules, it is unlikely to help avoid liability and heavy fines. Therefore, foreign countries have to behave as carefully as possible and if there is no self-confidence, it is better not to take rash steps, and even more so to drive the car. Especially considering that in Thailand a very intense movement of small-sized vehicles, to notice which, you need to be very careful and careful.

So it is not clear written, Man is arrested for being in a fight napoddaval owner or scooter because it left a dent ?! In any case, a very unpleasant story. Scary in a foreign country to go to jail for disorderly conduct and understand the local authorities did not specifically, I realized. We are a family, and if we travel, leave the car at home and driver's license by the way, too. It is not enough to get stuck with a fine, someone mash machine. Why these unnecessary feelings of wheelbarrow for parking spaces for fines and for the safety of her things in the cabin?
Of course, my husband and passive tourists only go with a guide or with a group, sit mostly near their hotel, did not indulge in extreme. While will not get caught in the terrible history.
It is also interesting to know in Thailand fined for pedestrians to cross the road in the wrong places? And as in this case, to pay the fine, documents can be selected, a passport?
For driving on drugs are strict penalties, but people's lives are at stake, there's no arguing with Thailand.

An interesting movie, but if it turned out that a person got into the DDP, let's say so with aggravated circumstances with a fatal outcome under the laws of Thailand - prison. And how is it possible for a foreign citizen to be imprisoned for 10 years. I understand the penalties for driving in a drunken state, driving without a helmet, wrong parking. But the prison is already cool. Although I think such a case is extremely rare in Thailand. But I honestly welcome the authorities' desire to respect and accept local traffic rules. And then this tolerance is now all boundaries of decency in human behavior abroad destroys. And especially happy that the police are still principled and try not to take bribes. I really liked that such a violation as not fastened seat belt from foreign drivers does not pass by. So the police, she and the police in Thailand, observes order, punishes the negligent, teaches tourists. But it would be very useful if the tour operators would give information on this topic even before the departure of those waiting. Not knowledge of laws does not absolve from responsibility.
